NNPCL sets date to end fuel scarcity

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) has assured Nigerians that the ongoing fuel scarcity and queues will be cleared out by Wednesday, May 1.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Communications Officer of NNPCL, made this announcement to NAN on Tuesday in Lagos.

Soneye stated that the company currently has an availability of products exceeding 1.5 billion litres, which can last for at least 30 days.

However, he acknowledged a recent disruption in distribution lasting three days due to logistical issues, which has since been resolved.

“Some folks are taking advantage of this situation to maximize profits,” Soneye noted. “Thankfully, product scarcity has been minimal lately, but these folks might be exploiting the situation for unwarranted gain. The lines will be cleared out between today and tomorrow,” he assured.

Similarly, Hammed Fashola, the National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (lPMAN), expressed hope that the queues in Lagos and Ogun would ease off this week, relying on the words of the NNPCL.

However, Fashola pointed out that the queues in Abuja might take longer to ease due to the distance to Lagos.

NAN correspondents reported stranded motorists and commuters expressing concern over frequent fuel scarcity in Lagos metropolis, leading to a few commercial vehicles and a hike in fares. Long queues were observed at filling stations across various parts of Lagos, with motorists enduring lengthy waits for petrol.

The NNPCL’s assurance comes amidst growing frustration among Nigerians over fuel scarcity, with hopes pinned on swift resolution to alleviate the inconvenience faced by motorists and commuters alike.
