The Director of Media and Communication for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, has cleared the air over the allegation that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set aside N22.5 billion for vote buying at the polls.

According to him, the claims by the opposition on the issue is untrue and there is nothing like that ongoing in the party.

The APC chieftain said that the accusations from the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) are baseless and do not hold water.

He submitted that the opposition was lying and as such there was no evidence to prove such an allegation

Onanuga advanced that “There is nothing like that. It is not true. Let them provide evidence that we have stashed money somewhere if they have any. It is obvious that they have none and are only making baseless allegations.

“That party (PDP) is known for frivolities. They just write anything they like and issue random statements. Their claim holds no water. They are just lying.”

Speaking further about the allegation he noted that the PDP claimed that the said money is being hoarded with some governors in the North because they are aware they can not win in those states.

He queried that ” Are they not our governors? There is no truth in what it is saying. The PDP is mentioning those states because it knows they are states where their candidates will lose. That is why they are raising all manner of useless and unfounded allegations.

“As I said earlier, if they are convinced and have proof that we are hoarding the money in those states, let them provide the evidence for Nigerians to see.”

Recall that the PDP had earlier accused the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu of swapping and stashing N22.5 billion old naira notes to new ones in Kano State.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement claimed that the intended swapping of N22.5 billion stashed old naira notes to new ones in Kano State, was part of a desperate move to actualize APC vote buying plans in the elections.

He said “The PDP has been made aware that the N22.5 billion in old N1000 notes was allegedly kept in a Kano State Government facility before being moved to a particular old generation and a certain new generation bank, where the regional heads were contacted by the APC Presidential Campaign to swap the old notes with new ones.

“Further information revealed that the cash is being warehoused by the Tinubu Campaign for vote buying in Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa and Sokoto States. A particular APC State governor is reported to have taken delivery of N500 million new Naira notes to actualise the vote buying plot.”
