9-year-old girl raped to death in Jos

Fatima Abubakar, a 9-year-old girl from Anguwan Layin Isyaku gwabna in Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, was allegedly raped and died in the area on Thursday.

About 11:00 am, the 9-year-old girl rape victim was on her way to get groundnut oil for the family when she was stopped by the suspect, who then sexually assaulted and killed her.

Hafsat Abubakar, the 9-year old rape victim’s older sister, told Daily Trust that she discovered her sister’s body hanging in a run-down structure while conducting a search.

“I was asked to go out and look for her whereabouts after she stayed out for hours and was unable to get home,” the woman stated.

“I followed the road leading to where she was supposed to buy groundnut oil. On my way, jokingly, I started calling her name – Fatima – Fatima. Unexpectedly, when I turned to my right, I saw her hanging in a dilapidated building. I then ran and called my father, who untied her and took her home.”

The victim’s mother, Sa’adatu Shehu, expressed regret over her daughter’s death and urged law enforcement to look into the incident, apprehend, and murder the offender.

She said;

“I was touched by the incident. I am not happy at all. Whoever is guilty of this heinous act should be treated the same way he treated my daughter. I will not forgive him. He should be killed. I want justice for my daughter.”

DSP Alabo Alfred, a spokesman for the state police command, confirmed the news by saying, “Police are aware of the incident.”

There has been one arrest so far, with the police confirming the situation is still being looked into.
