6 killed in fatal accident on Christmas day

Another road accident has claimed the lives of six persons on Christmas day ,just few hours after 7 travellers died in a luxury bus accident on Ososa bridge, Ogun state.

The fatal crash happened at about 3:20am on Saturday, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, opposite Elanlan construction zone.

Aside from the dead victims, 12 others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries, as traffic regulatory agencies rescued the 18 persons in the accident that happened on Long Bridge.

The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, MKA567XZ and an Iveco trailer, marked XF854KTN.

She added that a sum of N127,900 was recovered from the crash scene, saying the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, has advised motorists to drive cautiously, urging them to contact the FRSC, Ibafo outpost for more information about the crash.

“The suspected causes of the crash were road obstruction, excessive speed and loss of control,” Okpe said.

It was disclosed that the injured victims were taken to different hospitals – some to Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre, Ojota; some to Divine Touch Hospitals, Ibafo while others were conveyed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu and the dead bodies were deposited at Idera mortuary, Sagamu, Ogun State.
