Zamfara Senator, Gusau dumps PDP, fails to disclose new party

Senator representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District, Hassan Mohammed Gusau, on Tuesday, at plenary made the announcement to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, read the letter of Gusau notifying his colleagues of his action at the plenary.

Senator Gusau, in accordance with the letter, ascribed his decision to the alleged factionalisation and squabbling in the Zamfara State chapter of the PDP.

However, he failed to make clear if he will now defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He informed his colleagues that he will make his decision known on the party he hopes to join soon.

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle is slated to officially defect from PDP to the APC.

Similarly, a week ago, it was rumoured that Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, had concluded plans to defect from the PDP to the APC.

In the meantime, there is no formal message yet from Nwaoboshi confirming or denying the extensive innuendo.

Hassan Muhammad Gusau was born 12 December, 1960. He is the Senator Zamfara Central constituency of Zamfara State, taking office in 2019. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former PDP Chairman of Zamfara State, He is also a member national PDP board of trustees.

He obtained a Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery. He held appointments as Commissioner for Health, Commerce, Environment, Water Resources, Land & Housing, local government and chieftaincy affairs of Zamfara State.

After being elected to the Senate in 2007 in the 6th National Assembly, he was appointed to committees on Science & Technology, Public Accounts, Marine Transport, Health, Gas and Employment, Labour & Productivity. And in The 9th National Assembly 2019 he is the Chairman, Senate committee on Ecology and climate change.
