You have to go for it and buy now -- Jamie Carragher begs FSG

Former Liverpool defender and Kop legend, Jamie Carragher has pleaded on behalf of the club’s fanbase to its owners, Fenway Sports Group to go deep into the transfer market to bring in reinforcements before the summer window shuts.

The pundit stated this after the victory versus Newcastle at the Saint James’ Park after the Reds had initiated a 2-1 comeback on the evening.

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool though far off from challenging for the premier league title, are still that team to be feared and can still be Manchester City’s toughest opponent compared to what Arsenal were last season.

Liverpool had started the game with every negative narration that could be thought of on the day, with Trent Alexander Arnold almost getting sent off, and Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk being sent off in the 33rd minute of the first half.

The Reds had to hang in with a 10-man team to complete the 2-1 comeback.

The result leaves Liverpool currently unbeaten in the premier league alongside Manchester City, and Arsenal after playing a 1-1 draw versus Chelsea and consecutive wins against Bournemouth and Newcastle.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher said:

“Liverpool have been Manchester City’s biggest rivals for the last four or five years, and Arsenal came to the fore last season. But why can’t Liverpool be that team again this season?

“The squad that Liverpool have right now isn’t good enough to challenge Manchester City, but they’ve got to go for it in the transfer market this week in terms of bringing in another defender and midfielder. That has to happen because Liverpool can still be the biggest rivals to Manchester City.”
