Nigerian immigration seeks Urgent arrest of ex-Kogi governor Yahaya Bello
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has heightened efforts to apprehend former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello, issuing a red alert across all security agencies to arrest him on sight.
Bello faces allegations of embezzling N80 billion from Kogi’s treasury during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.
Despite anti-corruption agents’ attempts to capture him at his Abuja residence, Bello has managed to evade arrest.
In a memo signed by Assistant Comptroller General DS Umar and addressed to the police inspector-general, law enforcement agencies are directed to apprehend the fleeing ex-governor for prosecution.
The memo emphasizes that Bello is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja for conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering, urging swift action if he is spotted at any entry or exit point.
“I am directed to inform you that the above named person has been placed on watch list,” Umar wrote in the memo on Thursday.
“The subject is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court Abuja for conspiracy, breach of trust and money laundering.”
“If seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action,” stated the memo which was also sent to the director-general of the National Intelligence Agency.
