Or let’s put it in layman’s terms, how many Premier League or Champions League titles could Arsenal have won had Aliko Dangote gotten his way? Would he be a revered name in the Premier League and returned the fear factor that the Gunners used to have back in the days of Kanu Nwankwo? What could have happened to Arsene Wenger?

All that is however left to imagination considering that reality never really happened. We live in a reality where the Nigerian billionaire never bought the London club, and a reality where Aliko Dangote still regrets not buying the club.

Reflecting on his missed opportunity, Dangote said, “At that time [when I wanted to buy], they were not doing very well. Now, Arsenal are doing extremely well, and I don’t think it makes sense today to buy Arsenal.”

Dangote had long expressed his desire to purchase the North London club once his massive refinery project was completed, but skyrocketing club valuations and a shift in priorities changed the game.

Still a die-hard Arsenal fan, Dangote watches every match, but now regrets not making the move sooner, admitting that his financial focus was on completing key business ventures. Had he made the purchase years ago, he could have owned a stake in the club’s remarkable resurgence under Mikel Arteta.

For now, Dangote remains Arsenal’s biggest fan from the sidelines—but as the billionaire put it, “I think that time has passed.”
