Why I forfeited my admission to UNILAG – Rema reveals

Afrobeat singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema has revealed why he had to forgo his admission to UNILAG.

Speaking during an interview on Kiss FM, the Holliday crooner, Rema revealed that he decided to forfeit his admission to UNILAG after the 8-months-long strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU.

Recall that in January 2022, the music act announced that he had got an admission to the University of Lagos, UNILAG as his mother advised him to get a bachelor’s degree because it was important.

In the 2022 tweet, he wrote;

What if I told y’all I got an admission into Unilag? Lol Mom said I still need to get a degree sigh, oh well see you guys in class!”

In the interview, he stated that he never resumed classes at the higher institution, as he planned to do part time schooling and at the same time, focus on his music carrer but the strike ruined his plans.

He added that he finally chose to focus on music and his mother is comfortable with his decision despite her earlier position.

Meanwhile, thugs, on Thursday, disrupted an All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting at Ile-Tuntun area of Ibadan South East local government, killing three people and destroying vehicles and other properties.

Many APC supporters were reportedly attacked. The party’s assembly candidate in constituency 2, Wariths Alawuje, was at the meeting venue during the attack, but he escaped.

Wariths confirmed the incident through a telephone call and promised to update on further developments

He said: “We were in a meeting with party executives when we heard members of (party name withheld) walking towards our office. Our people waited, for them to go. Not long after, we saw a top member of the party whispering to another and the next thing, we started hearing gunshots and before we could say jack, many of our people had been injured, cars had been damaged while nearby houses were not spared. Some persons were also killed.”

 

Adewale Osifeso, Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo, appealed to the public to remain calm and law abiding, adding that the police and other sister security agencies had mapped out strategies to curtail any crisis during the elections.
