The Federal Government has extended the public holiday for the Eid-El-Fitr celebration, declaring Thursday, April 11, as an additional work-free day.

This decision, announced by Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, on Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024, follows recent statements by the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

The Sultan designated Wednesday, April 10, as the day for Eid-Fitri, prompting the government’s action.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, praised the Muslim Ummah for completing a month of spiritual rejuvenation and reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to a safe and prosperous Nigeria.

The extension of the public holiday aims to accommodate the Eid celebrations and foster unity among citizens, reflecting the government’s dedication to inclusivity and religious harmony.
