Sergio Aguero reveals what Sterling will bring to Arsenal

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has backed Raheem Sterling to play a pivotal role in Arsenal’s title ambitions this season.

Sterling’s loan move from Chelsea to Arsenal in the dying moments of the 2024 summer transfer window has already raised eyebrows, but Aguero believes this could be a game-changing signing for the Gunners.

Aguero, who shared the pitch with Sterling during their time at Manchester City, knows the English winger’s abilities better than most.

Speaking to Stake, the Argentine striker praised Sterling as a “solid reinforcement” for Mikel Arteta’s side, and it’s not just because of his talent. Aguero emphasized that Sterling and Arteta have history—a connection that could give Arsenal an edge in what promises to be a fiercely competitive season.

“I think it’s a great signing for Arsenal. Arteta and Raheem know each other very well from their time at City. Mikel will surely be able to find a way to let Sterling show his best game,” Aguero remarked, pointing out the key advantage that familiarity could bring.

Arteta, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, worked closely with Sterling during their successful title campaigns, and Aguero believes that this connection could help unlock the winger’s full potential at the Emirates.

Sterling’s move to Arsenal could be seen as a calculated risk. After a somewhat underwhelming stint at Chelsea, many questioned whether the winger could rediscover his best form.

However, Aguero’s confidence in Sterling suggests that under Arteta’s guidance, the 29-year-old could thrive once again. Aguero also pointed out the depth and strength of Arsenal’s squad, noting that the Gunners have built a formidable team over the past few seasons. With Sterling added to the mix, Aguero thinks Arsenal now have the firepower to go toe-to-toe with his former club, Manchester City.

“Besides, the team is very well-consolidated, and they’ve been a tough contender over the last few seasons. The team has a deep bench and Raheem comes as a solid reinforcement. They’ll come out as a stronger rival for sure,” Aguero added.
