Gareth Southgate, the current manager of the England national football team, has received a vote of confidence from Jose Mourinho, Roma's head coach, who expressed his belief in Southgate's ability to take on any role in football. Since assuming the reins of the Three Lions in 2016, Southgate has guided England to the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup and secured a runner-up spot at Euro 2020, ultimately falling to Italy in a tense penalty shoot-out. Despite having a contract in place until December 2024, Southgate is contemplating the possibility that the upcoming European Championships in Germany might mark his final major tournament as England's manager. Eager to explore managerial opportunities in club football once again, he aims to showcase his capabilities beyond the national team. In a recent revelation, Southgate shared insights from a conversation with Mourinho during the latter's tenure at Manchester United. Recounting Mourinho's words of encouragement, Southgate reflected, "I remember talking to Jose when he was at Man Utd, and he said, 'You know, when you’ve done the role you’re in now, you’ll be able to do anything.'" Expressing surprise initially but acknowledging the accuracy of Mourinho's foresight, Southgate affirmed, "Really? I thought that was probably right, but seven years into it, it’s definitely right."
