"What do I do next?" -- Emeka Ike on his battle with depression

Renowned Nollywood actor Emeka Ike recently disclosed a tumultuous period in his life marked by battles with depression, marital challenges, and conflicts within the Nigerian film industry.

These experiences led to his prolonged absence from the screen, shedding light on the personal struggles that kept him away from the limelight.

During a revealing interview on the program “Rubbin’ Minds,” aired on Channels Television and hosted by media personality Hero Daniels, Emeka Ike candidly shared the difficulties he faced.

Why Emeka Ike was depressed?

He attributed his depression to marital issues and the associated shame, which prompted him to withdraw from public view.

Of note, his marriage officially concluded on July 13, 2015, following allegations of domestic abuse, culminating in its dissolution by a Lagos Island Customary Court.

When questioned about his decreased presence in movie projects, Emeka Ike pointed out the industry’s shift from VCD to larger screens as a factor affecting demand for his skills. He highlighted that he, along with other colleagues, were sidelined during this transition period.

In a startling revelation, Ike disclosed facing life-threatening situations during his hiatus, encountering threats from unidentified assailants without apparent cause.

Throughout the interview, Hero Daniels delved into Ike’s journey of overcoming these adversities and staging a comeback. Ike emphasized the realization that he was targeted for who he was, prompting introspection and a dedication to self-improvement to reach his current state.

“I just kept doing the things I needed to do properly. I kept working on myself to be who I am now,” Ike shared regarding his journey of resilience and recovery.

Emeka Ike is poised to return to the Nollywood scene with an upcoming movie titled ‘Malaika,’ spearheaded by Toyin Abraham, marking his re-entry into the industry after a prolonged absence.
