“We have no plans to look down on anyone” — Super Eagles
Nigeria’s dynamic forwards, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, have emphasized the importance of not underestimating their upcoming opponent, Guinea-Bissau, as the Super Eagles gear up for their final Group A encounter in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Following a lackluster 1-1 draw in their opening match against Equatorial Guinea, the Super Eagles displayed resilience and determination in their second group game, securing a crucial 1-0 victory against Ivory Coast on Thursday.
Ahead of their Monday clash with Guinea-Bissau at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan, Osimhen, who emerged as the standout player against Ivory Coast, stressed the need for a strong performance and cautioned against underestimating their opponent.
“We aim for a strong performance against Guinea-Bissau. They will undoubtedly approach the game with determination, and we won’t underestimate any team, considering what they’ve done to qualify,” Osimhen stated.
Samuel Chukwueze, reflecting on the team’s resilience in the previous match, expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ readiness to contend for the AFCON title. He acknowledged the complexity of their group and highlighted the significance of the upcoming clash with Guinea-Bissau.
“The game against Ivory Coast showed we are ready to fight for the AFCON title. This group is complicated, but the most important game now is the last game.
“There is no small country in this AFCON, and Guinea-Bissau is good. We’ve played them twice in qualifying, and we lost one. We need to win the last game to top the group and ensure we qualify for the next round,” Chukwueze explained.
