“We are done with him” — Barcelona fans turn on their own
It is not very often we see Barcelona fans turn on their own player but after the 2-1 defeat to Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco in their first Champions League game, the Catalans have began calling for his ‘head’.
Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Monaco turned into a frustrating night, with fans directing their anger at one unexpected culprit—Marc Andre Ter Stegen. The usually reliable goalkeeper found himself under heavy fire from supporters after his errors played a key role in Barca’s 2-1 loss at the Stade Louis II.
A disastrous sequence began when Ter Stegen’s wayward pass put Eric Garcia in a position where he had no choice but to bring down Monaco’s Takumi Minamino, leading to a red card just 10 minutes into the match.

Things only got worse from there, with the German shot-stopper being criticized for failing to save George Ilenikhena’s winner, a shot that many felt was far too central to beat a keeper of Ter Stegen’s caliber.
Fans didn’t hold back on social media, lambasting Ter Stegen for what they deemed a career-worst performance, with one saying, “For any other keeper in a top league, this would be their worst game ever, but for Ter Stegen, it doesn’t even make the top 10.”
Another irate fan stated, “Might as well play a midfielder in goal at this rate—at least the passing would improve.”
Despite Barcelona’s unbeaten form in La Liga, this early Champions League stumble has left fans questioning their keeper’s reliability on the European stage, with many fearing the consequences of such lapses in crucial matches.
