Two men arrested for impersonating policeman and soldier in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Anya Okorie and Usman Ali, for allegedly impersonating a policeman and a soldier, respectively.

It was gathered that Ali was arrested when he and a fleeing accomplice allegedly attacked one Onyema with a jackknife in Surulere, while Okorie was arrested in complete police uniform in Ketu.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, condemned the act of impersonation and directed the Divisional Police Officers, intelligence detectives and heads of departments in the command to go after impersonators and make them to face the full wrath of the law.

Adejobi stated, “The police chief further directs that every police officer in the state must always possess a police warrant card or identity card as a major means of identification, even on uniform, being a practice in the police.

“Items recovered from Okorie are two mopol berets, two lanyards, two mobile police khaki trousers, three mobile T-shirts, a sergeant rank and mobile squadron badges, while army camouflage vest and jackknife were recovered from Ali.

“Ali has been charged to Magistrate Court 3, Surulere, on February 17, 2021, while Okorie will be charged to court today, February 18, 2021.”
