Tragic Accident Kills One, Injures Four Others In Anambra State
Fatal accident has reportedly killed one and injured four others along Onitsha-Nteje-Awka expressway in Anambra State.
According to a further report,the confirmed dead passenger was yet to be brought out from under the truck while the injured were rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka for treatment.
According to sources, the accident involved a truck marked: JUX 95 XA, and a private Honda Compact Recreation Vehicle (CRV) with Registration Number: LFA 224 TN, around Ukpo junction on Sunday.
The witness said the driver of the Honda CRV with five passengers.
They added that the driver of the Honda CRV with five passengers on board had tried to negotiate the junction, when a truck coming from an opposite direction rammed into it, following loss of control.
The driver of the Honda CRV died on the spot.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, who confirmed the incident, attributed the accident to excessive speed and loss of control.
He said: “A fatal road crash was recorded on April 16, 2023, before Ukpo junction, along Onitsha- Nteje- Awka expressway.
“Two vehicles, a commercial Howo Truck (10 tyres) with Registration Number: JUX 95 XA and a Private Honda CRV with Registration Number: LFA 224 TN, were involved in the crash.
“The probable cause of the fatal road crash was overspeeding and loss of control by the truck driver.”
While sympathising with the deceased’s family, Irelewuyi prayed for the quick recovery of the injured, but warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
He said efforts are being made by FRSC personnel from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command to remove the trapped body, adding that FRSC personnel are on ground to manage traffic and ensure that the obstruction caused is cleared.
