TopNaija’s Midweek Premier League Predictions
The Premier League hostilities continue with another round of fixtures for Wednesday and Thursday nights and as the world has come to know, the unpredictability of the league is once more going to be witnessed yet again as grand fixtures premiers tonight.
It sets the stage for how the premier league title charge will be decided come the end of May and end of the season and in eventuality how the league standing might look like on the last day of the season. Will the Gunners ultimately triumph or will they be gunned down by the Cityzens of Manchester at the Etihad stadium?
So many narratives go with this fixture, Arsenal has never claimed a victory over Manchester City since 2015, could they do it when it most matters? Or will Pep Guardiola once more prove the point that he has been trying to make since he stepped his foot in the premier league – that there is nothing special about the league but its marketing?
There are other fixtures set to carry along their own narratives too, such as Liverpool’s top 4 chances, West Ham and their chance of surviving the premier league with David Moyes, Brentford’s European dreams and of course the way ahead for Frank Lampard at Chelsea.
So here goes our predictions;
Chelsea19:45Brentford, will set the tone for Wednesday’s games as the Blues play host to Brentford in what might be Frank Lampard’s last game or not at Stamford Bridge amidst rumors of Mauricio Pochettino becoming the new coach of the Blues.
This game carries a lot of incentives for Frank Lampard to regain his image in front of a crowd that once held him high in spirit, we predict the Blues will find it tough but we do not believe this will mark a fifth defeat for Frank Lampard.
The game should produce goals from both sides but we believe Chelsea will scramble to a 2-1 victory to redeem Lampard’s image.
West Ham United19:45Liverpool, with Chelsea vs. Brentford setting the tone, Liverpool going away to West Ham United will intensify nerves as the Reds try to push for top 4 amidst hopes for a miracle. Whether they might end up doing that at the end of the season, it is hard to tell, but we see this game as a chance for Liverpool to get what they have lacked this season; consistency in result.
We predict Liverpool to steal a rare 3 point away at the London Stadium from the Hammers in a 0-2 win to kick start whatever dreams Jurgen Klopp’s men currently holds.
Manchester City20:00Arsenal, this match coming shortly after the other games must have kicked off, will drive the conversations going into the next morning and the weekend.
The gladiatorial battle of the season; the merciless Cityzens versus the heavily armed yet lacking of rhythm Gunners. Though Manchester City are favorites, TopNaija will stand behind Arsenal for this as this game will be remembered in seasons to come.
We predict a high scoring game with Arsenal nabbing the points at the death from Pep Guardiola’s men in a 2-3 scoreline. Or perhaps a repeat of Friday’s 3-3 score line to set the excitement for the weekend going.
Thursday 27th April
Everton19:45Newcastle United, will continue things that Wednesday left off, and the Merseyside Blues could stand a chance of doing themselves a favor as they battle survival in the premier league and also their Merseyside cousins, Liverpool and perhaps North London club, Tottenham should they steal vital points off Newcastle.
Newcastle over the weekend ran riot against Spurs in a 6-1 trashing but we do not predict Sean Dyche’s side to be battered in same fashion on Thursday and certainly not at Goodison Park.
They scrambled a draw in the weekend, and we could see a world where they do the same in midweek or even go better to gift Newcastle a shock defeat in a 1-0 score line to set the tone for the weekend.
Southampton19:45Bournemouth, Southampton were unfortunate to not claim all 3 points against Arsenal last Friday, but we do not expect them to bounce back and claim lost points against Bournemouth.
We predict a game that ends with Southampton counting their losses again in a 1-2 defeat to a business minded AFC Bournemouth.
Tottenham Hotspur20:15Manchester United, Spurs will want to spur themselves after the 6-1 humiliation at Newcastle, and of course, the players have been punished as they will refund tickets to Tottenham travelling fans who journeyed for the Newcastle affair.
This game will provide whoever is in charge of the team following the sack of their interim boss over the last 2 days to inform Daniel Levy of where Spurs are at or headed.
This game has Manchester United as favorites but we see a game where the underdog bites behind and claims all 3 points in a 1-0 score line to anger Erik ten Hag.
