Top APC chieftain shot dead

A tragic incident occurred in Osun state, Nigeria on February 19, 2023, when suspected political thugs shot dead a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebenezer Alaro.
He was shot during a ward-to-ward campaign in the Ilesa East local government area.
Alaro, who was a driver of the campaign, was killed at Ward Nine, Irojo in Ilesa.
The incident has sparked controversy and finger-pointing between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement released after the incident, the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, alleged that the thugs who killed Alaro were sponsored by the PDP’s House of Reps candidate for Ijesa-South, Sanya Omirin.

Lawal further alleged that the thugs were dressed in police uniforms and led by one Bongo. He claimed that the PDP leadership in Osun has resorted to using violence as the means to secure victory for their party in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Reacting to the allegations, the acting chairman of the PDP in Osun, Dr Akindele Adekunle, alleged that some APC thugs attacked the residence of Omirin, with his aged father almost killed.
Adekunle also alleged that the residence of the ex-chairman of the party, Sunday Bisi, was also attacked. He said the attacks by the APC were to intimidate members and supporters of the PDP from active participation in the upcoming elections.
