Tom Cruise’s Ex, Katie Holmes on Sexual assault in Hollywood
American actress Katie Holmes has spoken out about sexual assault, describing it as an “understood secret amongst all women.” In a wide-ranging interview with Glamour, the 44-year-old actress discussed her latest film, Rare Objects, which she directed, as well as family life with her 16-year-old daughter, Suri.
During the interview, Katie Holmes spoke about a scene in Rare Objects where the young lead, played by Julia Mayorga, is assaulted. Holmes said that shooting the scene was difficult but important, and that “what was most important to me was what it did to [Benita] in the aftermath.” She added that unfortunately, sexual assault is “an understood secret amongst women, so we don’t have to share too much to know what we’re talking about.”
Holmes also gave a rare insight into her family life, describing her daughter Suri as an “incredible person” and saying that it has been important to “protect her” due to her being “so visible at a young age.”
Katie Holmes shares custody of Suri with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, and according to their divorce documents, Cruise agreed to pay Holmes $400,000 a year until Suri turned 18 years old.
Suri has not seen her father in a decade after he went MIA when Holmes refused to join The Church of Scientology. In the interview, Holmes did not address her relationship with Cruise or Scientology, but instead focused on her gratitude for being Suri’s parent.
Holmes rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with her role in the hit television show, Dawson’s Creek. She has since appeared in numerous films and television shows and has also worked as a director. Her latest film, Rare Objects, is set in the 1930s and follows the story of a young woman who becomes involved with a wealthy family in Boston.
