Thomas Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich
The 2023/24 season has to be a dramatic year for managers in the top 5 European Leagues as Thomas Tuchel is confirmed to be the 3rd manager to be departing his club at the end of the season.
Following a torrid year on pitch for Bayern Munich, the former Chelsea boss is reported to be leaving the Allianz Arena after the conclusion of the current campaign.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, an official announcement regarding Tuchel’s departure is imminent.
The decision to part company with Tuchel comes on the heels of a string of disappointing results for Bayern Munich, including a significant 3-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
This defeat has left Bayern trailing eight points behind Leverkusen, raising concerns within the club’s hierarchy about their ability to compete for the Bundesliga title this season.
Tuchel’s position at Bayern Munich had come under scrutiny last season as well, with the manager narrowly holding onto his job despite the team’s struggles. The Bundesliga title was secured on the final day of the season, thanks to a late winner from Jamal Musiala, with Bayern clinching the title after Borussia Dortmund failed to win their final match.
Expectations were high for Tuchel this season, particularly following the signing of star striker Harry Kane in the summer transfer window.
However, Bayern’s title ambitions have been dented by the unexpected rise of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, who currently sit comfortably at the top of the table with an unbeaten record, a contrast to Munich’s own fortunes.
