Sure the Latins and Romans really have influenced alot of things that has to do with this world.
Though we dont know which of them really gave us the word January, but its permitted, cause we dont know if our very own Oduduwa came to the world with a chain or migrated from mMecca ( story for another day).
It is believed to be named after the Latin word for door- “ianua” (Ianuarius), which is gotten from the fact that January is the door to the year and an opening to new beginnings. It is also believed to be named after “Janus”, the god of beginnings and transitions according to Roman mythology, or “Juno” according to ancient Roman farmers’ almanacs who is believed to be the tutelary deity of the month.
