"They all wanted to sleep with me" -- Yemi Alade on being shunned

Popular Nigerian music artiste Yemi Alade has shed light on the challenges she faces in receiving accolades and recognition in the music industry, attributing it to her refusal to succumb to demands for sexual favors from industry professionals.

In a candid interview, the renowned ‘Johnny’ singer revealed that she has encountered numerous instances where she was approached for sexual favors in exchange for career advancement opportunities.

Yemi Alade expressed her firm stance in refusing such advances, citing her commitment to maintaining her dignity and integrity.

Alade elaborated on the prevalence of such demands in the industry, stating,

“There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that.'”

She further explained that despite facing pressure to comply with these requests, she remained steadfast in her decision to abstain from engaging in sexual activities for professional gains.

The singer acknowledged the adverse impact of her refusal on her career trajectory, revealing that it has led to missed opportunities, including awards and deals. She lamented that despite her talent and hard work, she often finds herself overlooked for accolades and recognition in Nigeria’s music industry.

Alade emphasized that her decision to uphold her principles has come at a cost, with opportunities being “automatically blocked” for her due to her refusal to compromise her values.

Nevertheless, despite the challenges she faces, Alade remains resolute in her stance and takes pride in maintaining her dignity and the loyalty of her fans.
