“The pain you feel now is necessary” — President Tinubu
In Imo State, during the inauguration of Governor Hope Uzodinma for a second term on Monday, January 15, President Bola Tinubu appealed to Nigerians to endure the hardships resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy, assuring them that conditions would improve over time.
Addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by the nation due to the subsidy removal, expressing empathy for the pain experienced by the citizens.
He urged the public to bear in mind that difficult decisions were sometimes necessary for the progress of the country.
The President drew parallels between the current situation and the struggles of democracy, emphasizing that the journey involved “twists and turns.”
Tinubu drew an analogy to the process of childbirth, noting that while there might be pain associated with the removal of subsidy, it could ultimately lead to positive outcomes.
He stated,
“Each time I watch the news and see one pain or the other associated with the removal of subsidy, just remember that among you, your families are pregnant people.
“The day of birth is the day of pain. You go through the labour pain. When you hear the voice of the baby, your pains are gone and you are relieved. Nigeria is at it.”
