The Olympics is now the benchmark for us -- Ashleigh Plumptre

Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre has opened on the next plot for the Nigeria national women team moving forward after crashing out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

According to the former Leicester City Centre Back, securing a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games is the next target for the Super Falcons team.

The Nigerian team earned a lot of plaudits following their performances in the FIFA Women’s tournament where they crashed out unbeaten in all 4 games that were played.

Barren the penalty defeat, Randy Waldrum’s side were undefeated against teams better ranked in the tournament than them, including co-hosts Australia, England and Canada.

The West African are set to face Ethiopia in October in the first round of the qualifiers for the Paris Olympic Games.

According to Ashleigh Plumptre, qualifying for the Olympics is now the benchmark for the team.

“This is now the benchmark for us. The expectation is that we compete with these teams all the time, hopefully, we have proven that,” Plumptre told the BBC.

The Super Falcons have failed to qualify for the last three editions of the Olympics games, and getting into the coming edition will set things into perspective for the national team.
