The many Sins of the Glazers at Manchester United
The Glazers had real talents to grab hold of in the palm of their hands, all they needed to do was to clasp their palms before anyone noticed…
It is no secret that the Glazer family, the main stakeholders of premier league club, Manchester United are one group that every fan of the Old Trafford side wish to forget still runs the 3-times European Champions.
At the height of the Glazer families’ ownership of every aspect of the club, Manchester United fans were known for staging protests of all sorts to campaign against their exit from the club. The fan base at one point in time even placed a hold on a crucial derby tie versus Liverpool just to send a message to the American ownership.

Leave, sell the club to people who know how to run it, the enraged Manchester United fans said at the time.
Flash forward to present day, the Glazers despite running the club, have taken a step back for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group to step into the spotlight to dictate the football side of the business. But that’s not before the Glazers had committed what some fans will see as ‘serious’ sins or bad investments to the team.
In a recent report by Sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano, the extent to which the Glazers during their major ownership of Manchester United had conducted some bad investments in terms of player purchase or sales, was revealed.
In Romano’s post, he reveals that the 20-times premier league champions had their scout teams scout top talents for the football team with The Athletic revealing players such as Moises Caicedo was scouted by the club as far back for as low as $2million.
They also revealed that Manchester United had the chances of signing a then 17-year-0ld Pedro Neto for some measly training compensation, a 15-year-0ld Jamal Musiala, Benjamin Sesko for €2m and current academy star, Hannibal Mejbri for free earlier than they ended up doing.
However, the Glazers reportedly passed up on the deals or stalled in the cases of Sesko and Hannibal. The Red Devils’ hierarchy ended up signing Hannibal for as much as 10 million Euros when all was said and done.
One other signing that Manchester United could have gone for and had the middle finger raised at their bitter rivals, Liverpool, was Stefan Bajcetic for as meagre as 250,000 euros, which again the Glazers passed on.
The aforementioned signings were not the only signings the club could have gone for under the Glazers control of sport talent acquisitions, as there are reports that Manchester United had opportunities to nab Erling Haaland ahead of Borussia Dortmund or even Manchester City, or the likes of Cody Gakpo ahead of Liverpool.
That said, it remains to see what the new era of INEOS would bring to the Manchester side, and if United’s lost glory will return with the change of hands and tide.
