Stop military action immediately, NATO warns Russia
Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General has called on Russia to cease its military action in Ukraine immediately, TopNaija reports.
He made the call in a press briefing at Brussels, Belgium, on Thursday.
“We call on Russia to immediately cease its military action, withdraw its forces from Ukraine and choose diplomacy,” he said.
He accused Russia of having criminal intentions for invading Ukraine, stating that the invasion was deliberate, cold-blooded and long-planned. He reiterated that “NATO fully supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and…right to self-defence.”
Describing the attack as “unjustified” and “unprovoked,” Stoltenberg warned Russia against using force to rewrite history.
He stated that, by its brutal act of war on Ukraine, Russia has shattered the peace of the continent.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance between 28 European countries and 2 North American countries. The organization implements the North Atlantic Treaty that was signed on 4 April 1949.
NATO constitutes a system of collective security, whereby its independent member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. The NATO headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium, while the headquarters of Allied Command Operations is near Mons, Belgium.
