Stampede at Nasarawa state university leaves female students feared dead
Tragedy struck at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as a stampede during the distribution of palliatives resulted in the feared death of some female students.
Several others suffered injuries of varying degrees during the incident at the university’s convocation square.
Yunusa Baduku, the National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, confirmed the heartbreaking event, describing it as “horrible.”
According to Baduku, all students involved were promptly taken to hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Detailing the incident, Baduku explained that the students, in large numbers, overwhelmed security measures and forcibly entered the convocation square where the distribution was scheduled to take place.
This led to a chaotic situation, causing injuries and suffocation, particularly among female students.
Baduku, who was present at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, commended the swift response of the school management, student leaders, and state government representatives in providing aid to the affected students.
He also noted the tragic loss of one student’s life and the ongoing medical treatment for the injured.
