Sagamu-Benin Expressway kidnapping: Police confirm incident

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of travelers along the Ilisan/Iperu axis on the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

According to SP Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the incident occurred on Friday, May 3, although the exact number of lidnapped individuals remains unspecified.

Odutola explained that the incident, reported as a case of armed robbery, murder, and kidnapping, saw hoodlums armed with AK-47 rifles block the expressway around 6:55 p.m.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ilisan, upon arrival at the scene, discovered two vehicles riddled with bullets, including a Lexus jeep 300 and another Lexus jeep 350.

Among the items found in the Lexus 350 car were a cross bag containing N113,000, two iPhones, and the body of an unidentified man who had been shot in the head. Additionally, a third vehicle loaded with plantains was also present at the scene.

While the driver of the plantain-laden vehicle was initially kidnapped, Odutola confirmed that he had since been released, along with the vehicle. However, the two Lexus vehicles have been taken to the Ilisan police station for further investigation.

Following an emergency meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, tactical commanders and mobile squadron units have been instructed to pursue the criminals.

The police commissioner personally visited the scene of the incident and assured that the perpetrators would be swiftly apprehended.
