Roblox boosts creator earnings & introduces AI at Dev conference
Roblox unveiled a series of significant updates at its annual Developers Conference on Friday, focusing on enhancing creator earnings and integrating generative AI technology into the platform.
The company announced an increase in revenue sharing for creators of paid experiences on the desktop. Creators will now receive 50% of the revenue for experiences priced at $9.99, 60% for those at $29.99, and 70% for experiences costing $49.99—a significant jump from the current 25% share. This move aims to attract more traditional game developers to Roblox, according to Chief Product Officer Manuel Bronstein.
In addition, Roblox is partnering with Shopify to enable creators to sell physical merchandise directly within their experiences. This integration will be piloted later this year with select creators and brands.
Roblox also introduced a “Price Optimization” tool to help developers find the best pricing for in-experience purchases, and plans to experiment with regional pricing to tailor prices to different markets.
Looking to the future, Roblox is developing a 3D foundational model that will power generative AI on the platform. This open-source, multimodal model will allow creators to generate 3D content using text, video, and prompts.
These updates highlight Roblox’s ongoing efforts to support and empower its creator community.
