PS5 Update: Adaptive charging, new widget hub, more

Sony has announced a significant update for the PlayStation 5 (PS5), introducing several new features. The latest system update, available starting today, includes adaptive controller charging, party link sharing, and a revamped widget hub.

The adaptive charging feature, which optimizes power supply to connected controllers, is now available globally for PS5 Slim and the upcoming PS5 Pro models.

This feature, compatible with DualSense, DualSense Edge, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and the Access adaptive controller kit, aims to extend battery life by adjusting power based on the controller’s current charge. When a controller is not connected, the PS5 will cut power to the USB port after initiating rest mode.

Additionally, Sony has introduced a new “Welcome Hub” that allows users to customize home screen widgets to track console storage, accessory battery levels, and friends lists. Initially available to select players in the US, this feature will be rolled out globally in the coming weeks.

Other updates include personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones, adjustable Remote Play settings for managing access permissions, and expanded party voice chat invitations that can be shared across messaging and social media apps.

These new features will be available for all PS5 models, with party link sharing rolling out alongside a PlayStation App update for mobile devices.
