Presidential ailment in 2017 was a setback for Buhari's administration, says Femi Adesina

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, has acknowledged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s extended illness in 2017 was a setback for his administration.

Adesina made this statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the achievements and legacy of the Buhari government.

It should be recalled that in 2017, President Buhari was flown to the United Kingdom for medical treatment and remained there for a total of eight months.

Asked whether the sickness was a setback, Adesina said: “It should be because when he fell sick in January 2017, he came back in March (and) went again in April and didn’t come back till August 19.”

“About all, eight months. That sickness took eight months of his time in the office. Of course, nobody would like that. But what we are glad about is that he came whole, sound and better than he went.”

In other news, suspected gunmen have reportedly attacked the residence of Jonathan Ukodhiko, a member-elect for the Isoko federal constituency in Delta state, Nigeria.

The gunmen incident involved about ten armed men who allegedly stole livestock, including ten cows, from Ukodhiko’s home.

Tragically, a Hausa man who was in charge of the livestock was reportedly killed during the invasion.

The incident is said to have occurred shortly after the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections, but it was initially not made public.

“The invasion took place at midnight which resulted in the carting away of over 10 live cows and other animals from the compound of the member-elect by the hoodlums and they killed the cattle rearer, a Hausa man and dumped his body in a bush.

“I think the cattle rearer was not killed in the compound; we suspected he was taken to a nearby bush where he was killed and his decomposing body was found in the bush after several days of search.

“The dastardly act is condemnable and an act of mere wickedness. This is an act that has never been seen in Owhe clan. The police have taken over the case now but no arrest has been made so far,” a source said.
