President Tinubu Withdraws Nomination Of Maryam Shetty As Minister
Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has withdrawn the nomination of Maryam ‘Shetty’ Shettima as a ministerial nominee from Kano State.
TopNaija recalls that Tinubu sent the name of the nominee alongside 48 other names to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation.
On Friday, the President sent a letter to the Senate in which he replaced Maryam Shettima’s name with Dr. Mairiga Mahmud, without providing a reason for the change. During Friday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read out the President’s letter.
Maryam Shettima, also known as Maryam Shetty, is a social activist and a qualified physiotherapist who was the National Leader of #WeBelieve, an APC support group.
She was born into the Kano royal family and received her early education in Kano. Ms. Shettima graduated with distinction from the Federal School of Physiotherapy at Bayero University, and worked briefly with Dala Orthopedic and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals in Kano before pursuing further education in London.
There, she obtained her Master’s degree from the University of East London, specializing in sports physiotherapy. As part of the medical team for the London Olympics, she worked with top-tier athletes, including world record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
