President Buhari bans Basketball, approves withdrawal from international competitions

Due to leadership crisis that has be ongoing, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that Basket ball be banned and Nigeria be withdrawn from international competitions for two years. 

In a letter from the Ministry of Sports, authorities said they intend to “utilize this period of break to address all contentious issues among stakeholders’.

The minister added that the withdrawal of Nigeria is in order to concentrate efforts by the government towards revamping the sport from the grassroots as well as domestic leagues which have become moribund.

“This will also allow for the setting up of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the management and development of the domestic basketball leagues in Nigeria,” he said.
