Police officer dies of Coronavirus complications in Abeokuta

An officer of the Nigerian Police Force has died at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State as a result of coronavirus complications.

The authorities of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State, have confirmed the death of the officer.

The officer, whose name could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, brought the number of fatalities of COVID-19 cases recorded at the facility within a week to two.

A pregnant woman had died at the hospital shortly before her COVID-19  result was ready which showed she was positive.

The Head of Public Relations at FMC, Segun Orisajo, on Sunday morning confirmed the death of the unnamed police officer.

Orisajo said the officer died at the facility three days ago (Friday).

According to Orisajo, the deceased, presented in the General Outpatients Department at FMC about three days ago, later died same day.

The spokesperson said the officer’s COVID-19 test result returned positive on Sunday morning.

“His body is being prepared for release to his family for burial in strict compliance with World Health Organisation’s guidelines.

“All members of staff who came in contact with the deceased are currently on self-isolation,” Orisajo said in a statement.
