They are political rivals, not enemies…
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has reacted to the incident involving President Bola Tinubu‘s stumble during the Democracy Day celebration at Eagles Square, Abuja.
Tinubu tripped while climbing a parade vehicle, an incident that quickly drew attention on social media and various news outlets.
In a series of tweets, Obi expressed his concern for President Tinubu and highlighted the importance of focusing on Nigeria’s pressing issues rather than dwelling on the mishap.
“I was saddened to learn of President Tinubu’s unfortunate fall today. I wish him well. We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could well happen to any of us,” Obi wrote.
He emphasized the shared humanity that binds all Nigerians, regardless of political differences, stating, “We are all human beings and while we profoundly disagree on how to move Nigeria forward, we must remember our common human frailty. Let us stay focused on the issues that will lead to a new Nigeria.”
Obi further urged for a focus on compassion and unity in the pursuit of a brighter future for the country. “May this moment serve as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the need for compassion, empathy, and unity in our pursuit of a brighter future for our great nation,” he added.
The incident involving President Tinubu occurred during the June 12 celebration, a significant day in Nigeria commemorating the country’s democracy. Despite the stumble, Tinubu continued with the proceedings, marking the event that celebrates the nation’s democratic journey.
Peter Obi’s remarks come at a time when Nigeria is facing numerous challenges, and his call for empathy and a united focus on national issues reflects a broader desire for constructive dialogue and progress across political divides.
