Peter Obi leads tributes at Amaechi Muonagor’s burial

The burial of Nollywood icon Amaechi Muonagor on Friday was marked by an outpouring of tributes, led by Mr. Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Amaechi Muonagor’s burial ceremony occurred in Muonagor’s hometown of Obosi in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State.

Peter Obi, who attended the funeral to pay his respects, delivered a heartfelt condolence speech. He expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Muonagor, acknowledging the actor’s significant contributions to Nollywood and his role as a mentor to many in the industry.

Obi offered prayers for the bereaved family, urging them to take heart and find solace in the enduring legacy of the late actor.

Dom Onyenji, the State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, also attended the funeral. He praised Muonagor as a creative giant whose contributions to Nollywood will be sorely missed.

Onyenji reassured those present that the Anambra State government stands in solidarity with the Nollywood community during this time of mourning.

The event was strongly represented by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). The AGN National President, Mr. Emeka Ejezie, represented by veteran actor Mr. Steve Eboh, spoke on the profound loss experienced by the industry. Ejezie highlighted Muonagor’s remarkable career and the lasting impact he had on his peers and protégés.

Chinyere Anyaegbunam, the AGN State Chairman, echoed these sentiments. She described Muonagor as a father figure and a mentor who left an indelible mark on the Nigerian film industry.

The presence of Peter Obi and other prominent figures underscored the high regard in which Amaechi Muonagor was held.

The burial was a solemn yet celebratory occasion, reflecting on the life and legacy of a beloved Nollywood star whose influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
