Pep Guardiola singles out one player in UEFA Super Cup win

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola makes history with Manchester City as he becomes the very first football manager to win the UEFA Super Cup with 3 different teams following Manchester City’s defeat of Sevilla on Wednesday night.
The Spaniard won his 4th European Super Cup to equal Carlo Ancelotti’s record as manager with most titles in UEFA Super Cup history.
Pep Guardiola was present for his side’s victory in the 5-4 penalty shoot-out win at the Karaiskakis Stadium, following a slow start by the Cityzens against the Europa League champions.
The match had ended in a 1-1 stalemate after 90 plus minutes of game time, thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri and Cole Palmer playing hero for their sides.
En-Nesyri had broken the deadlock in the first half via a header past Manchester City’s Ederson Morales, a goal the La Liga side defended till the 63rd minute when Cole Palmer leveled the score line to force penalties.
Man City’s victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup means Guardiola has now won the trophy with the Premier League champions, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Speaking in the aftermath of the game, Pep Guardiola singled out City youngster, Cole Palmer for praise for the UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla.
He praised the academy graduate’s character and his equalizer to gift Manchester City a chance in the 5-4 fixture.
Speaking to reporters in the post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola said;
“He [Palmer] has a character. It is not easy to play against defenders like (Marcos) Acuna, for example, who is a top defender.
“It is not easy, it is a final. He is a young player playing in these stages.
“It is not easy for these guys. He played really, really good and scored a fantastic goal, too.”
