Okonjo-Iweala and Buhari meet in New York [PHOTOS]

Earlier today, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari met with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization in New York.

Buhari had arrived New York, United States ahead of the 76th United Nation General Assembly on Sunday.

The theme for this year’s UNGA is, “Building Resilience Through Hope – To Recover from COVID-19, Rebuild Sustainably, Respond to the Needs of the Planet, Respect the Rights of People and Revitalize the United Nations.”
President Buhari will address the Assembly during the General Debates on Friday, September 24 when he will speak on the theme of the conference and other global issues.

Okonjo-Iweala served twice as Nigeria’s Finance Minister and also as Minister of Foreign Affairs. She was the first woman to hold both positions. During her first term as Finance Minister in the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, she spearheaded negotiations with the Paris Club that led to the wiping out of US$30 billion of Nigeria’s debt, including the outright cancellation of US$18 billion
