NSCDC rescues abducted student found wandering in Kwara State
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command announced on Monday the rescue of a 400-level student of Abubakar Audu University, Ayangba, Kogi State, who was reportedly abducted and later found wandering in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The student, identified as 19-year-old Fauziyah Muhammed, a final-year English Education undergraduate, was allegedly kidnapped in Ayangba on Sunday morning. Reports suggest that she was hypnotized and later abandoned in the Kwara State capital.
NSCDC Commandant Dr. Umar Muhammed revealed during a press briefing that residents of the Ajegunle-Isale community on Egbejila Road discovered the student early Monday morning. She was reportedly wandering the area naked before being provided clothing by Good Samaritans and handed over to the NSCDC for care and assistance.
According to the commandant, Fauziyah displayed incoherent speech, possibly due to the trauma of her abduction. “We have briefed Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who has promised assistance, including support for her transportation back to Kogi State,” Dr. Muhammed stated.
When questioned, Fauziyah said she could not recall how she traveled from Kogi to Kwara but mentioned losing consciousness after dropping a book she was carrying.
Authorities are arranging her release to her family, represented by her uncle, Mallam Salihu Aliu, who has been authorized to take custody.
In another operation, the NSCDC paraded Abu Usman Soja, alleged to be an informant for a kidnapping gang in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State. The gang reportedly abducted a woman and her two children on November 7, 2024, demanding a ransom of N50 million, which was later reduced to N15 million.
While the mother has been released, the kidnappers remain at large with her children. The NSCDC is continuing efforts to apprehend the suspects and rescue the victims.
These incidents highlight ongoing security challenges and the NSCDC’s efforts to address them through prompt response and collaboration with communities.
