Nothing special about Nigeria, we were just unlucky — Otto Addo
In a friendly match that stirred up anticipation and rivalry, the Black Stars of Ghana faced off against their arch-rivals, Nigeria’s Super Eagles, with a result that left head coach Otto Addo feeling somewhat aggrieved.
Despite a valiant effort from the Ghanaian side, they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against the four-time African champions in Marrakech on Friday night.
Goals from Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman secured the victory for the Super Eagles, while Ghana’s captain, Jordan Ayew, managed to find the back of the net, providing a glimmer of hope for his team.
Addo voiced his disappointment, expressing his belief that his side deserved more from the match.
“I don’t like to look too much about the positives because we lost. But I think we were a bit unlucky in the way we conceded the first goal as the ball hit the hand but like I said we were unlucky,” Addo stated, as reported by the official website of the Ghana Football Association.
Reflecting on the game, Addo highlighted the resilience displayed by his team, particularly in the second half despite playing with 10 men.
He noted the positive aspects of their performance, emphasizing their control over the game and their efforts in creating scoring opportunities.
However, Addo lamented the missed chances and pointed out that the decisive blow came with Nigeria’s second goal, which dashed Ghana’s hopes of salvaging a draw.
