NLC declares indefinite strike over wage stalemate

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has confirmed that a statement circulating on social media, dated August 1, 2023, is authentic but unrelated to the ongoing national protests.

This clarification comes after their detailed press releases issued on July 22, 2024, and July 23, 2024, where they articulated their stance on the protests and urged the government to engage in dialogue with protest leaders.

According to the NLC, the circulating statement was originally issued concerning their disputes with the government over various issues, including breaches of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on June 5, 2023.

NLC reiterated that this statement has no connection to the current national protests.

In the July press releases, NLC emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue between the government and the protest leaders.

They advised the government to avoid unhelpful rhetoric and instead focus on sincere discussions, asserting that it is within the constitutional rights of the citizens to protest.

NLC maintains that engaging in meaningful dialogue with the leaders of the protests is the best approach to resolving these issues.

They believe this is the most effective way to address the concerns and grievances of the people and to ensure a peaceful resolution.
