NiMet predicts dust haze, rains across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thundery and rainy conditions across the country from Thursday to Saturday.

The agency warns that residents should prepare for isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains, which could lead to urban flooding in major cities.

According to NiMet, isolated thunderstorms are expected on Thursday morning over parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states, with the storms spreading to Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states later in the day.

The North Central region is forecasted to experience moderate rains, particularly in Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States.

For the southern region, intermittent rains are anticipated on Thursday afternoon and evening, affecting states such as Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

The pattern continues on Friday and Saturday, with more isolated thunderstorms, scattered thunderstorms, and moderate rains expected across the northern and central regions.

NiMet has cautioned the public about potential urban flooding due to the heavy downpours and advised residents of flood-prone areas to take necessary precautions.

The agency also highlighted the likelihood of strong winds accompanying thunderstorms, urging the public and airline operators to stay informed through updated weather reports for effective planning.
