Senator reveals N21M as true monthly earnings
Kano South Senator Sumaila Kawu has revealed that each senator’s total monthly salary amounts to N21 million.
This disclosure came during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service on Wednesday morning.
Kawu’s statement contrasts sharply with the official figures released by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), which stated that each of Nigeria’s 109 senators receives a monthly salary and allowances totalling N1.06 million.

According to Senator Kawu, while his basic salary is approximately N1 million, additional allowances and benefits significantly boost his total earnings to N21 million monthly.
This revelation has sparked further scrutiny of the financial packages provided to lawmakers in Nigeria.
The senator’s comments have intensified the ongoing debate over the transparency and appropriateness of compensation for public officials in the country.
