Nigerian prison officers suspended over Bobrisky bribery claims

The Federal Government has suspended some senior personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service following bribery claims against controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, often known as Bobrisky.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board announced the officers’ suspensions on Thursday, citing a viral video of suspected offences against them.

According to a statement signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, the suspension of these officers is to allow for additional investigation into the numerous charges, with the assurance that the outcome will be made public once completed.

The officers are “Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State; and

“Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.”

The Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, who works at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate to a site outside of the facility.

“In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.”
