Nigerian pilgrim falls down and dies due to excessive heat in Saudi Arabia

Too much heat in Saudi Arabia has caused a Nigerian pilgrim to collapse and die.

This was verified by Dr. Abubakar Adamu, Head of Nigeria’s Medical Team, in an interview with newsmen on Monday in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

Reports state that the pilgrim fainted and finally passed away from heatstroke on his journey to Jamrate to complete the ceremonial stone tossing.

Due to the extreme heat, it was discovered that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had at 11am halted pilgrims from moving to the Jamarat Bridge for the stone throwing ceremony.

The head of the Nigerian Medical Team, Adamu said, “Even before the commencement of this year’s hajj operation, we have been educating and sensitising members of the medical team on how to prevent heatstroke that could arise from heatwave.”

Pilgrims have also been encouraged to guard themselves from the hot sun using umbrellas.

Similarly underlined was the requirement of pilgrims staying hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day, even if they did not feel thirsty.

TopNaija recalls that Nigeria lost two more pilgrims from Kwara State presently engaged in the continuous Hajj activities in Saudi Arabia.

With the two Kwara pilgrims dead, the total number of Nigerian pilgrims killed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia came to 11.

The Hajj of this year started on Friday, June 14.
