Nigeria rank 3rd best team in Africa, above AFCON champions Algeria
The Super Eagles did not win the AFCON cup but they had other wins. The Nigerian national team is now the third-best country in African football.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have jumped 12 places upward in the new FIFA Ranking, from 45th to 33rd.
On Thursday, July 25 FIFA released a new ranking just a week after the Super Eagles of Nigeria won the bronze medal of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to confirm their place as the third-best team in African football.
The ranking is not based solely on current results as Nigeria’s performance at AFCON 2019 is not the reason for the jump. Older results had a positive impact on recent scores.
In the new ranking, the Super Eagles are third in Africa below Senegal who are in 20th place and Tunisia who are the 29th country in world football.
Belgium remain the number one country in world football with Brazil in the second position after moving up one place and followed by France, England and Uruguay.
