Nigeria plan to unveils farmers mobile app

In a bid to modernize agriculture and support farmers nationwide, the Nigerian government has introduced a pioneering mobile app.

This app aims to serve as a comprehensive training and guidance platform, equipping farmers with essential knowledge and resources to boost their productivity and improve their livelihoods.

Announcing the initiative, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, highlighted the longstanding challenge of limited access to agricultural extension services. Traditionally, farmers have relied on extension workers for training and advice, but this approach has often been inefficient and inaccessible, especially for those in remote areas.

The newly launched farmers mobile app seeks to bridge this gap by providing farmers with instant access to a wealth of agricultural practices. These include best practices for crop cultivation, livestock management, pest and disease control, weather forecasting, market trends, and financial management. Designed with a user-friendly interface and interactive features, the app ensures that farmers of all literacy levels can easily navigate and utilize the information effectively.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), mobile technology has transformative potential in developing countries. It provides timely information, connects farmers to markets, and enhances access to financial services. Nigeria’s initiative aligns with this global trend, harnessing the widespread adoption of mobile phones to empower farmers and advance agricultural development.
