Emergency security meeting holds Amid planned hunger protests

An emergency security meeting is currently underway at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, prompted by escalating threats to national assets and critical infrastructure amidst growing hunger protests and potential terrorist activities.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, is presiding over the meeting, which has gathered key security agency heads and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

The urgent Emergency security meeting follows planned hunger protests across Nigeria, where citizens intend to voice their dissatisfaction with the economic situation.

These protests, coupled with increasing terrorist threats, have heightened concerns about national security.

Attendees include Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Comptroller General of Immigration Kemi Nandap, Controller General of Corrections Haliru Nababa, and Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The ongoing discussions are focused on reviewing the country’s security status and devising strategies to address the dual challenges of civil unrest and terrorism.

TopNaija recalled a recent suicide IED attack in Gwoza, Borno State, resulting in at least 30 fatalities, underscoring the renewed terrorist threat. This attack, marking the return of such incidents after more than four years of relative calm, has emphasized the necessity for a coordinated security response.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, previously assured the public that security agencies are on high alert to counter any potential attacks on national assets. The current meeting aims to reinforce these measures and ensure the protection of critical infrastructure amidst the increasing unrest.
