Post Graduate Students of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) have donated food stuffs and other relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) in Kaduna.

The post graduate students who are studying Conflict Security and Development however called on the government to as a matter of utmost priority reinstate the IDPs back to their homes.

Addressing the IDPs who were victims of the 2011 post election violence, spokesman of the students, Datong Domini Gwaman said the government has larger role to play in ameliorating the sufferings of the IDPs.

He said the food stuffs and other relief materials they brought were bought from their personal contributions as students of higher learning, who are concerned about plights of victims of crisis.

According to him, “In our studies, we have studied a lot of conflicts, their remote causes and suffering of the people. So, aside bringing our widow’s might, we are here to share your experiences, in other to prevent future crisis”.

Mr. Gwaman however appealed to the government to see the IDPs as people who need to be reformed, rehabilitated and reinstated to their communities, rather than people who derive pleasure in depending on government.

Similarly in her address to the female IDPs, one of the students, Hajia Khadija said women suffer more after any form of crisis, because “it is either they lose their own life, husband or children.

She however urged them to always admonish their husbands and children to desist from participating in crisis.

Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, the Head of Hausa community in Zonkwa, Kaduna state, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed said, they never participated in the crisis, rather they are mere victims.

According to him, “they killed our people, wounded us and looted our properties. We came here without food, clothes and shelter. We accommodated for a period of time and later ejected by government without compensation. Since then, we have been living from hand to mouth, while others even beg for survival”, he said.

Items donated to the IDPs included hundreds of tubers of yam, rice, toiletries, bathroom slippers and footballs for children among others.
